INTELed aimed to support special and general education teachers in acquiring knowledge and skills about the use of multi-sensory technology for learning and assessment, for addressing the needs of SEN children in inclusive education contexts. This was obtained through an innovative training method, driven by theories of embodied cognition, research on embodied learning, and the premise of multi-sensory technologies. The method was accompanied by evidence of its effectiveness through pilot studies in schools at the four partner-countries. The partners worked on presenting the pedagogical framework, the training model and instructional materials, and the procedures for implementation and evaluation. The project aimed to form a sustainable Community of Practice (CoP) around the INTELed method.
INTELed Goals
- Development of a pedagogical framework for SEN education driven by theories of embodied learning.
- Dissemination activities and multiplier events for the promotion of the INTELed method at the partner countries.
- Development of educational resources for SEN teacher training, under the license of creative commons.
- Wider dissemination activities, such participation in conferences, for the promotion of INTELed at the international level.
- Implementation of training events for in-service SEN teachers.
- Development of a methodological framework for training in-service SEN teachers on ICT tools and multi-sensory techniques for learning and assessment.
- Assessment of the effectiveness of the method on SEN student skill development via pilot studies.
- Establishment and sustainability of a CoP around INTELed, pushing for upgrades in teacher training.
- Validation of the acquired knowledge and skills via pilot studies in authentic school environments.
Learning Modules
Based upon the four-staged INTELed training model, a total of four learning modules have been developed in order to facilitate teachers’ training. These modules combine experiential learning (Teachers as “learners”), hands-on activities (Teachers as “Designers”), practical experiences (Teachers as “Innovators”) as well as reflection activities (Teachers as “Reflective practitioners”).
These learning modules have the form of educational resources under the license of Creative Commons, so that they are adaptable, accessible and widely available to educational institutions, teachers and learners. The learning modules have been translated in 4 languages of the consortium (Greek, English, Italian, Spanish).
Join the INTELed community forum on Facebook to interact with teachers across Europe and to exchange educational resources as well as to identify examples of additional school pilots and implementations by teachers in schools in Cyprus, Greece, Spain and Italy.
