Online conference – 20 May 2021, 10:00-16:30 (CET)

The mis- and disinformation spread in the Media has gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic. This raises the broader question of the role of media professionals and researchers in the spread of science and communication. Public understanding of scientific key issues is often limited and misinformation or even deliberate disinformation proliferate. The challenge of communicating scientific information to the public should be taken up by the scientific and media communities more strenuously. But, what are the current challenges faced by academia and media to achieve a working relationship?

The Erasmus+ funded project ERUM intends to bring a solution to this by improving the educational offer on quality of information in the field of higher education. It aims at developing students’ transversal competences in terms of media literacy, evidence-based communication and resilience to mis- and disinformation. Media experts and journalists are involved since the project also intends to strengthen their capacity vis-a-vis evidence-based and research communication.

In this framework, we are organising an online conference that will take place on the 20th of May 2021 from 10am to 4:30pm. This event will bring together media professionals, academics and policy-makers and will include exchanges and discussions on how universities and media professionals can learn from each other in order to increase the quality of information and also on the media treatment of scientific information. This will also be built upon the outcomes that the project has reached so far, which will be presented by the members of the consortium.

The exact programme will follow soon. In the meantime, please register here, and make sure you register before the 18th of May.
